Backyard Wildlife… Scrub Jay

I’ve finally figured out who is living in the nest high up in our oak tree.  I can hear the babies chirping, but I haven’t been able to spot the parent bird feeding them.  But I’ve finally had success!  It’s a scrub jay family.  I should have known.. the birds are so territorial, but I thought that was just their bullying nature.  The baby was out of the nest a couple days ago, so, while the baby was out on a branch, I was able to see a baby being fed.  Unfortunately, because they were so well tucked behind the leaves, I wasn’t able to get a picture.  But here’s mom or dad, eating at our bird feeder… my son LOVES watching the birds eat out of the feeder he made (with a lot of help!)…

Interested in bringing wildlife into your backyard?  Here’s the project we’re working on…

    • The scrub jays have become used to me sitting in my chair in the backyard and no longer hesitate to come in for some food. The other cute little birds, however, are still skittish, so I haven’t been able to capture them with a photo yet. I’m working on it…
